Onion flakes vs onion powder for food manufacturers
2026-04-10
Food plants often ask whether to buy dehydrated onion flakes or powder. The answer is the application, not a generic “export quality” label.
Flakes hydrate more slowly and remain visible in soups, ready meals, and some snack toppings. Powder disperses quickly in sauces, seasonings, and batters. Mesh size on powder should be written on the PO so lots match your plant.
From India we pack both from one onion line (dehydrated/kibbled, flakes, powder) under HS 07122000. Moisture, colour, and storage (cool, dry) matter more on a six-week ocean leg than they do in a domestic truck move.
If you are importing into the EU or the US, tell us the named port (for example Rotterdam or Houston) so the quote uses the right CIF and document set. We quote worldwide; the SKU is shelf-stable, so ocean is usually enough.
